Here we discuss 14 stylish football players .
It is sometimes difficult to define what it means to be a stylish football player. Money can do strange things to a man, including forcing him to purchase the same dodgy trainers as his teammates, and for every Beck in a nice jumper, there are 1,000 Neymars in chrome-plated tailoring at the opening of a Paris nightclub.
Even so, there are more than a few well-dressed bright spots out there, and now that we are taking a break from the Premier League and awaiting the World Cup, the time has come to recognise our most stylish and well-dressed players.
We have compiled this list of the Premier League players who get it right when it comes to dressing, from Burberry signing up Son Heung-min to Dominic Calvert-Lewin pushing back against stereotypes of footballer fashion.
The Spurs and South Korean icon has perfect hair and a billboard smile, making him an ideal ambassador for Burberry. Burberry snapped up the two-foot-thumping, Arsenal-shredding monster. Son’s style off the pitch errs on the “considered” side since TV channels show a special graphic on the screen when Son plays. His new campaign features expensive jeans, slouchy white tees, and a bit of gorp-adjacent nylon outerwear in lots of black.
In addition to a magnificent corkscrew lid and abs that a geologist should take a look at in order to determine exactly what is going on, Egyptian King Mo Sallah owns one of the best collections of watches in football history and is also capable of dressing it up when necessary. A retro Adidas tee and short (short) shorts finished with a psychedelic headband and Gucci coat for a certain GQ cover, a tidy tux at the Ballon d’Or (give him one, football!).
Known for his cerebral midfield abilities and eye for goal, Gundogan also embodies Pep Guardiola’s philosophy of ‘let me wear a rollneck; how about that’, one of our favourite football fashion schools. Gundogan has perfectly proportioned facial hair and an immaculate black coiff that makes him look like a matinee star.
The former Arsenal player has moved to Seville and grown a little moustache, but he remains an Arsenal player. In terms of progressive style in the Premier League, Héctor was one of the first of the modern crop to stray from branded hoodies and take an interest in the manufacturing process. As we sat front row, with an Adidas tracksuit and white vest, we met the designers, who sat wearing dangly earrings and a Vivien Westwood jumpsuit.
He just had to be included. From nothing, he built himself into a football god and will not stop taking free kicks, even though he does not score them any more. He has become a global superstar with a smile that could raze a mediaeval peasant village from a wonky-toothed kid with a dodgy Madeira mullet.
Currently, Ronaldo is king of the blue denim, white shirt, all buttons down, and aviator sunglasses, and, you know what, he can get away with it. He’s Ronaldo, and he’s somehow gotten younger every year and has frosted tips when he is 37 years old, but… he’s Ronaldo.
There is no doubt that Paul Pogba is the blockbuster World Cup winner, the French poster boy, and the guy that had everyone dabbing for quite a while. Pogba dresses the part and has tried every single hairstyle available, including the full Bic head shave when he has a full hairline, which is a big flex.
Considering that he scored a goal in a World Cup final, wears white suits all the time, and always looks cool, or at least supremely confident, he is an athlete who is accustomed to being watched. Take a look at the Adidas x Gucci campaign in full tracksuits at the Box Office. We think this setup is quite reasonable.
One of the difficult aspects of being young, famous, a generational athlete, and having a lot of money is that you grow up in the public eye. It has been fascinating to observe Mason Mount’s style evolution over the years. As a smiley academy boy, he became a Chelsea and England stalwart and, in recent years, a fashionista.
There was a flash of a black LV shade here, a blouson from Burberry there, and even an Aime Leon Dore rugby sweater on This Morning. Not many people can claim such accomplishments, can they?
Everton’s Davies lets his perm and ‘tache flow freely, giving a direct plug to someone who owns lots of fantastic retro anoraks and even has a 35mm film camera to take appropriately grainy fit photos, the Scouse fashion Robin to Calvert-Lewin’s big-trousered Batman. It was a lot of fun to see him and DCL cutting about New York on Citibikes in full Gucci a couple years ago.
The young man has fed the children, taught them reading, and scored a variety of goals for United. In addition, he looks immaculate in Burberry. When Rashford received his MBE last year, he wore a custom morning suit designed by Riccardo Tisci. Rashford said in his interview with GQ that “the outfit really captured my personality.” It included thoughtful details such as ‘MR’ cufflinks.
It is not often that I have the opportunity to dress like this, but when I do, Burberry is the first place I turn. I wish to use my platform to champion homegrown brands, especially a brand such as Burberry.
There are many young men who enjoy cutting about in little sunglasses in the sunshine every summer, including Jack Grealish, Dele Alli, Declan Rice, Mason Mount, and Ben ‘Chilly’ Chillwell. But don’t forget Madderz, Leicester’s playmaker with a John Motson voice and a magic right foot. He also casts a spell over an Amiri shirt as well as a Boohoo campaign.
He’s perhaps the most football-dressed footballer out there, with the industry-standard blacked-out G-Waggon and French Bulldog worth more than all of our salaries combined. There’s something about Madderz that you can’t help but admire. He’s got that swagger. I’m going to wear a fun shirt and a big, fat chain with you.
In my opinion, Jack Grealish is probably (definitely) the England footballer who would have the most fun on a night out. Imagine yourself, Jack, and the boys, somewhere in Ibiza, wearing tinted sunglasses and smiling. This is life. He’s someone who appears to be having a great time, dazzling defenders with his magic feet, freshly tinted flow, and massive calves. Mrs. Grealish 69 is hollering from the crowd.
It is also clear that he has fun with his clothes, with a bit of flash, but recently he has been upgrading his credentials. There is the (alleged) enormous Gucci partnership, which is set to begin any day now, as well as a recent shift towards more directional pieces. It is apparent he has the IT factor ready for Ushuaia when the time comes, which is part of Grealish’s appeal. It is because of this that he is one of the most compelling players on any pitch or open-top bus parade.
Everton’s striker stated in his recent GQ Hype cover story, “I am very happy to act as a symbol of new flamboyance.” DCL has the look of someone comfortable both in his clothes and in his own skin, whether it is Chanel bags, flowing Dunhill trousers, or Gucci boots with a bit of heel. Further proof that footballers need to embrace the wilder side of fashion and wear more crazy Prada vests
He is the only footballer who has worn a Gucci headband on the field. The mercurial Frenchman with the light feet and funny tweets is currently lighting up St. James’ Park in more ways than one. Yes, he has a beige drop-crop cargo pant in his locker, but he wore a Gucci headband!
He has a growing career as a fully-fledged Football Fashion Man GQ Style cover boy sporting Bottega puddle boots. Check the Aime Leon Dore campaign looking moody, but in a way that had fans writing ‘this is cool’ in the comments: check it out!
Furthermore, there has been a resurgence in avant-garde tailoring, with some very sharp black and white LV and Burberry suits. Commentators are always pointing out his GCSE results, but they should be focusing on how good he looks in a suit.
